mähawa was founded to preserve and reimagine cultural expressions for new generations, blending storytelling, commerce, and styling to celebrate heritage through contemporary design.

Part collection, part gallery, mähawa gathers adornments, objects, and stories of identity and shared memory, celebrating the beauty of our traditions.

about the founder…

Founded by Sarah, mähawa integrates design, photography, storytelling, and culture to create meaningful pieces that honor tradition. Born to parents from Harar, Ethiopia and raised across Yemen, Kenya, and the United States, Sarah’s perspective is shaped by both heritage and global experience, including years of work with communities worldwide to secure safe water and essential services. Guided by this commitment, mähawa safeguards traditions from erasure, carrying them forward through artistry, storytelling, and collaboration.
